Berks county is home to three battery manufacturers. One is Exide Corporation (formerly General Battery Corporation), a publicly traded company with annual revenue of approximately $3 billion. Directly across from one of their plants located in Laureldale, PA is an unrelated battery maker called Yuasa Battery. A third manufacturer is called East Penn Manufacturing, otherwise known as Deka. Finally, Enersys, is a worldwide leader in industrial batteries with corporate headquarters in Reading, PA. Why do you think Berks County has so many battery manufacturers?
